Introduction

Located in the District of Algoma near Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario, the Painted Forest Carbon Project protects 59,846 hectares of private forestland that would otherwise have been subject to commercial harvesting. By avoiding those emissions, the project generates significant, verified climate benefits each year.

The property sits in a strategically important location, bridging Lake Superior Provincial Park and Algoma Headwaters Provincial Park to establish landscape-level forest connectivity that supports wildlife movement across the region. The project has successfully completed both validation and verification under Verra's rigorous Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) and is actively generating Verified Carbon Units (VCUs).

Our Role

Ostrom Climate was contracted by Perimeter Forest Limited Partnership to develop an Improved Forest Management (IFM) project under Verra's VM0012 methodology. We led every stage of the process, from pre-feasibility assessment through to carbon modelling, documentation, and engagement with the third-party Validation and Verification Body (VVB),culminating in a successful validation and first verification. The Painted Forest project is a strong example of our ability to deliver technically complex carbon projects efficiently and to a high standard of integrity.
