Introduction

The Warm Springs Phase I project covers approximately 9,000 hectares of Ponderosa Pine and Douglas Fir forest within the Warm Springs Indian Reservation in Oregon, spanning a diverse landscape from sagebrush steppe to the summit of Mt. Jefferson in the Cascade Range. Owned by the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs, the forest has historically been managed primarily for timber production, game and wildlife habitat, and watershed protection and enhancement. Carbon revenue from the project supports essential governmental services for the Tribe. The project was developed under the 2014 Compliance Offset Protocol for US Forest Projects.

In 2020, the Lionshead fire burned a significant portion of the project area, reducing standing live biomass by approximately 50% and ultimately necessitating project termination.

Our Role

Ostrom Climate managed the project development and verification process on behalf of the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs. Following the Lionshead fire, we remain a committed partner to the Tribe, providing ongoing technical assistance and policy interpretation to support the project termination process. Our involvement through this challenging period reflects our approach to long-term client relationships: staying engaged when it matters most, not only when conditions are favourable.
